Hose

Got some thin iron scraps, and made a couple hooks to go on the side of the composters for the hose to live on.
x2 loops measured out, one  just reaches the tap, the other the plot :-)

Coldframe

I got hold of an old cover for a CNC cutting machine that was being thrown out.  I cut out the top, and used an old Perspex door to make another  lid in the top, and created a cold frame.
I also added some heavy duty handles from some other scrap to make it easy to move around.

This will come in very handy down the line I hope.

Green Carpet

Weeds came back with a vengeance.  A really stunning emerald carpet of some form of weed.

Looked amazing.  Had to go.

A Few Leftovers

As we cleared things out, we found some Sweetcorn, Butternut Squash, and Courgettes hiding away.

We did our best to keep them going as they'd been sat neglected for a year apparently.
The corn got eaten by something and was no good, but the Squashes and Courgettes were good and yielded some edibles !

Starting At The End - Building Composters

As we had so much to clear, and didn't want to double handle all the waste, we first cleared the end of the plot, and used heavy duty Pallets to build 3 large composters. That way all green waste that we could would go straight into them out the way and start their process.

I lined them with membrane and we built drop in fronts. Also using some slabs to keep a decent path to them in any weather.

Planning and Clearing

After wading through the weeds to see what might be underneath, we started to clear things out. Its laborious and tedious, but seeing progress feels good.

The original beds started to appear. They're larger than I want, so I'll rejig them later.

As we cleared, I piled up the wood, rotten and good alike, along with more I sourced, as I knew Id need it.

Beginnings

SO, in 2022 I finally got my allotment.

With a knowledgeable friend, I was eager to dive in.
And diving was pretty accurate....It was overrun with weeds.
